THEMS WAS THE DAYS
Photos taken at a poetry reading I did in Washington Square Park in the late 1970s when I was in my late 30s (unfortunately I can't remember the photographer....)

FYI
I'll be reading a couple of poems between music acts earlier in the evening at my cousin Nick Ciavatta's Jersey City birthday bash, but if you love live music, I highly recommend this raucous mix, which includes one of my all-time favorite music makers Sylvana Joyce, you don't want to miss her and her band...

LOVE, SIMON
There's a lot to be dismayed about, obviously, these days, but there's also a lot to celebrate, like the kids who led and spoke at the march in DC last Saturday, and an African-America action comic hero movie with the stars and most of the cast African-American topping the all-time money-making movie chart, and more.
LOVE, SIMON is a smaller, more incremental kind of triumph of what matters (at least to me, and I suspect you), even though it's a classically generic romantic-comedy about first love in high school. Because the twist, unprecedented as it turns out (though way the f*ck overdue) is that it isn't a "boy meets girl" story, but instead a boy meets boy story.
A great cast, well-directed, and edited, deliberately written to echo other high school movies with happy endings to just have a happy teen gay love story (though as is usual with high school movies, since James Dean starred in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE, the actors are more college, or even post-college, age).
A small but sweet relief from the headlines, and a bit of a headline itself.
