Thanks to RZ for passing this one on:

"Things turn out best for people who make the best of how things turn out." —Art Linkletter

  1. Art Linkletter invented the hula hoop and made a zillion dollars of of it...

it was a plastic version of a barrel hoop

he also stole many other ideas and made them his own...

  2. Geez anon, you see the worst in things, like the diametric opposite of this invaluable quote. Nothing's really new under the sun - history has always been about repackaging and improving. FYI, I got this quote from a little inspirational flip calendar that we keep on the dining table for my younger sister Patti, a former teacher's aide in day care centers who in now quadriplegic, twenty two years into an unknown degenerative condition. She can't speak or scratch her head, but she has the courage to wake up and smile every day. You take cheap armchair pot shots and don't have the cajones to identify yourself. At least Jim stands behind it when he called Michael what in fact you are here: chickenshit.

  3. Reminds me of something I read on the train this morning by ee cummings (especially the last stanza):

    rain or hail
    sam done
    the best he kin
    till they digged his hole

    :sam was a man

    stout as a bridge
    rugged as a bear
    slickern a weazel
    how be you

    (sun or snow)

    gone into what
    like all them kings
    you read about
    and on him sings

    a whippoorwill;

    heart was big
    as the world aint square
    with room for the devil
    and his angels too

    yes,sir

    what may be better
    or what may be worse
    and what may be clover
    clover clover

    (nobody'll know)

    sam was a man
    grinned his grin
    done his chores
    laid him down.

    Sleep well

  4. it is

    E.E.Cummings

    not
    e.e.cummings

you've been duped! by the Norm Mafia
    and
I bet you $19 that you REALLY believe that Jesus is GOD
and that he died for your sins... that's a very sad crock of crap!

  5. Actually Anon, Cummings used both upper case and lower at different times. He certainly used lower in most of his books. But what's with the cranky meanness? You seem terribly insecure about your own beliefs to have to ridicule those of others to make your point, which is what exactly? The only "sad crock of crap" I see on this blog, except for my own misfires, come from commenters like you, I'm sorry to say.

  6. well
the editor/publisher of the harvard university press who published
    in 1953
    E.E. Cummings'

    i six nonlectures
is who first did the lower case spelling

    Cummings held the copyright as

    E. E. Cumings!

    Cummings dedicated the book/nonlectures:

    "for John Finley"

    Cummings opens with:

"Let me tell cordially warn you, at the opening of these socalled lectures, that I haven't the remotest intention of posing as a lecturer. [etc]."

    OH WAKE UP!

    life is fleeting....

you've merely become what you've pretended to be

so much for show biz, eh?

  7. I see you've read Sawyer-Lacanno's bio of Cummings, but in fact as I stated above, Cummings used, or allowed to be used, both lower and upper case in different situations, despite that bio's justification for the upper as the poet's preference. Beyond that quibble, I still don't get your point.
    But Tim, I appreciate yours.

  8. "...the dread of something after death, the undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler returns, puzzles the will and makes us rather bear those ills we have than fly to others that we know not of." in other words, swine are more comfortable wallowing in their own sh*t that exploring greener pastures.

But there is a part of me that can relate to Anon's Scroogism, for there are many days when I feel like I've transitioned seamlessly from being an angry young man to being a grumpy old man. Fortunately, I am blessed with Rilke's observation that "the God wants to know himself in you." and the higher self manages to win the day. However, attacking Art Linkletter's quote I take personally for reasons that should be apparent above, so Anon, tread lightly and if you want to put your money where your mouth is you just let me know and we'll meet out back, bare knuckles only and, even though I'm disabled, I'll give you a valuable lessson in life.

  9. Jesus told me to respond with more ee cummings:

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

  13. It points up the need for vigilant, unending, 24/7 b.s. busting, on all fronts, left, right, center, up, down on all fronts. But mostly on things like Obama spending 200 million a day on his trip or the "Government is taking over health insurance."

  14. Robert,
Bush's deficit was 400 billion, Obama's 1.6 trillion in his first year. US total debt has grown to 14 trillion. Not good. Early indications on Obamacare are it's main revenue generating item, the individual mandate is unconstitutional. Cost overruns were scary before the individual possible disallowance by the courts.

Coupled with his war on business, domestic
energy, Obama has been an economic disaster.
