Thanks to my old friend Tom Wilson [who I'm sure like me not just remembers those microphones but used them back then] and his BIRTH OF THE COOL blog for hipping me to this:
Hyperbole aside, I had no idea he would have been considered the "Mickey Mantle of Country Music." I was under the impression he didn't hit his stride until he tuned in, turned on and dropped out.
