The Republicans keep insisting, as they have all along, that only they are tough enough to take on the terrorists and protect us all. Giuliani is especially guilty of this.
But what exactly are their credentials for claiming this?
As others have said, and a recent letter to TIME magazine from Ron Speigel of Philadelphia put most succinctly:
“…on 9/11 the terrorists boarded planes in a state that had a Republican Governor and did their worst damage in a city that had a Republican mayor and a state that had a Republican Governor—all while a Republican was in the White House.”

i wish it were as simple as being "tough enough" - seems like our country's wealth can resource everything but intelligence, reason, morality, and a functional foreign policy. granted, i doubt that the democrats could have mutated ‘our’ character to a worse degree, but i’m highly suspicious of the special-interest syphon the candidates pass through on their way to d.c.
i’m exhausted by the oversimplified sound bites and bombastic, circuitous rhetoric used by the ‘leadership’ in politics, advertising, and media. maybe there’s just too much professional wrestling, ‘reality’ tv, and big gulp sludge in the warhol system ...
saw a bit of trivolta in ‘swordfish’ yesterday - that ‘teach em a lesson’ and ‘slight of hand’ stuff seemed poignantly familiar...
can’t wait to hear bush’s pep rally battle cries on monday ...
i thought all we had to fear was fear itself .
