scarey stats - wondering what ecosystem is being upset - whether the motive is fear based on myth, sustenence, carelessness, or sport ...
nature seems to provide a pretty effective rejuvenating equation to compensate for extinction - until we hit the 'tipping' point ...
i guess at that time we'll look for alternative terrors of the sea or bees or ...
the liberal wrongwingers would say 'save em' whereas the conservative correctwingers would justify their demise as being part of a necessary balance of nature to preserve the hierarchy ...
at some point i'd appreciate hearing your views on what 'conservative' has really evolved into with american politics ...
i haven't formalized my thoughts on the subject yet - but i believe its a term that certain mean-spirited factions hide behind using goebbelsesque techniques of interpretation and justification to advance their own interests ...
also, you familiar with the film and photography work of rietenstahl ...

Harryn,
Classic liberals were the folks who advocated equal rights under the constitution, like abolitionists, and voting rights for former slaves. They mostly came from the Republican party.

Liberals or what was called Progressives grew up in the early 20th century. They believed that the State should guide social policy and right wrongs as they saw it. It was a belief that grew out of "Social Darwinism" that the state should encourge the growth and breeding of certain groups and retard and even neuter other groups like crimminals and the insane. This was done during the Wilson administration. Some, wanted to extend this to races. Mussolini was a socialist long before he became a fascist. His fascism was beneign compared to the German form. Hitler was also a socialist thus the name of his party's movement National Socialim. His brand of socialism was wrapped up in the identiy of the German people as distinct from Communism which welcomed all peoples.

Harryn, Jonah Goldberg has book out called "Liberal Fascism" which I recommend. It is point of view you may not agree with, but you may find interesting in forming your own views on modern Liberalism vs. modern conservatism.
