Not to make the rightwingers even more nervous than they already are (have you seen the fantasy claims FOX commentators and talking heads have been making (and that nutty rightwing Republican congress woman whose name I won't even mention)? They're claiming Obama is a "tyrant" who is setting up "re-education camps" and "concentration camps" and has "torn up the Declaration of Independence" and etc.
And their insistance that Obama is going to "take away" their guns has led to at least a few of these recent gun rampages (including the one in which three cops were killed, it's interesting how the right wing always claims to be on the side of the military and law enforcement but always cuts the budgets for both and raises the death toll). [Check this link for a good take on all this]
But even so, this song is still as timely as when my daughter Caitlin turned me on to it several years ago now. I'm assuming this link I found is legal, where you can hear Cheryl Wheeler singing her great song/rap IF IT WERE UP TO ME (just hit the play arrow in the upper right corner).

For anyone who knows a little history, the tripling of funding and man power for the Americorp teamed with what looks like an attempt to turn America into a statist socialistic country that is more concerned about group rights rather than idividual rights, it is an unsettling time.
Capitalism only works where there is, uh, capital. When our "too big to fail" banks become insolvent, to the point that the government has to prop them up-- then we can't have robust capitalism. But this is what Obama inherited, and we have to keep moving forward.
Did either of you even listen to the song which is what this post is really about?
No.
Out-frackin'-standing! Cait, thanks for pulling our coats. And Lal, it reminds me of the line you coined years and years ago, which my late father loved to quote: "Ever hear of a drive-by knifing?"
JM Lally,
US capitalism has survived worse. After all, we survived Hoover/FDR, Nixon and Carter. If we can survive that, we can certainly come to our collective senses and reject Obamanomics. The Tea Parties next week may be the start we need. When politcians are devoid of common sense it is time for the people to lead. Grab your tea bag and join the party. The Denver party is to be on the steps of the Capital Building on the April, 15th. Hopefully we have a big crowd.
