Well, cities may be efficient with respect to consumption of resource, but our biggest problem is still in the numbers.
The earth is overpopulated by at least a half. People may not be rodents, but they overpopulate in the same way, and with the same disastrous results.
The earth is groaning with excess consumption. We don't need bigger cities, we need smaller ones, and fewer of them.
Curtis, the point of the article was how definite mathematical patterns occur in the sizes of cities organically, without planning or control etc. and how they correspond to mathematical patterns in body size and efficiency. But your point on overpopulation is well taken.
