Interesting Krugman article ...
It all sounds that the G.O.P. is playing to the audience - and that's where the biggest problem is. Ever since Sarah Palin - and I can even go as far back to Reagan, there's been a huge part of the American population that has been empowered by incendiary rhetoric designed to incite reactionary drama that keeps peoples' eyes off the ball.

This part of the population is not the brightest, nor the most worldly and instinctively reacts to any threats directed toward their existence. And the right wing has learned to fashion their messaging toward them. They are the 'Joe the Plumbers' and 'Suzi-Homemakers' that have now become empowered with social media and with just enough 'Faux News' knowledge to make them dangerous enough to decide an election. A population that is more interested in things like Wrestle-mania, Cage-Boxing, American Idol, and the Apprentice with all its bombastic and hulk-like posturing - behavior that has no use for thoughtful consideration (boring by comparison) of the facts that confront our culture.

On the world stage, America is looking pretty stupid. Granted, we have Mr. Obama that is desperately trying to make sense of it all, but lacks the down-home charisma to communicate it - and he's black - which still causes problems with the Confederacy. Obama simply lacks inspirational messaging that can be understood by this ever-growing segment of the population; which becomes his tragic flaw.

I believe we trusted our politicians to be smarter than us with a grasp of the bigger picture not that long ago. Today, the trust is gone and somehow we've come to appreciate the least flawed candidate or the one that best emulates our celebrity heroes.

So to quote Krugman, "there are two crucial things you need to understand about the current state of American politics" : First is that the there has been a dumbing down of American voters, and second is, in their fashionable rush to judgement it is likely that the wrong choices will be made.

Trump is going to moderate a G.O.P. debate ???
oh boy ...

Great column. Scary column..........
Scary also when the Left continues to deride the working class and gives ground faster than an eroding glacier to the Hannities,Limbaughs and Mark Levins artful mass propaganda which wraps itself in flag, family and religious values and thus gains credibility.Find what we all have in common and leave the rest be
