FORTY-FIVE YEARS AGO BUT STILL RESONATING FOR ME

There were a lot of shootings of black college students in those days, like at Jackson State, but this was the white establishment killing its own, possible because the rightwing Republican mouthpieces and propaganda convinced enough confused and miseducated that "hippies" and other war protesters were not only dangerously traitorous but almost of a different species, much as they continue to do today...anyway, it's a day that lives in my heart for the cutting down of such young and vulnerable lives...here's Neil Young's take (thanks to my friend Ruth Perez):

I was just outside DC in a cheap apartment complex watching the tear gas drift toward us from the protests on the College Park Maryland campus and down on the national mall the next day with ten thousand others...
