HAPPY CANADA DAY

Here's some good reasons why Canada gets an "Eh" (pronounced "A" of course) when compared to the USA.

Great photos---esp. the one of you & Lee, which I don't remember ever seeing.

I guess you meant to leave that comment on the previous post, and yeah, I love that shot of Lee and me too, more and more the older I get...

I love Canada. I've lived in Toledo, Ohio for most of my life which is only about 75 miles from Windsor, Ontario, so we could get Canadian radio and tv very clear. What has always amazed me is the lack of censorship in Canada compared to the U.S.

They would show films which did not have nudity and language edited out. And this was on regular analog tv whose signal anyone in the area could pull in. It was a delight to be able to view film uncut and uncensored such as the fine lesbian documentary, FORBIDDEN LOVE.

In 1973 I was headed west and driving across North Dakota at night fiddling with the AM radio trying to find something good to listen to. Suddenly I found a station where a woman was reading a poem which had words like fuck and cunt in it - had to do with someone riding on a white horse or something like that. After that poem, they played Ginsberg reading HOWL with no censorship.

I kept listening and found out, of course, that it was a Canadian AM radio station. I let out a loud cheer into the lonely North Dakota night in praise of Canada. And felt ashamed of our dimwit puritanical media here in the U.S. - Bob
