YET ANOTHER LIST!

I still don't have what was my normal lifelong compulsion to make lists, but in my post-brain surgery listless bliss (actually I miss it) I noticed yesterday while I was working around the house, folding laundry after getting it from the coin machines in the basement etc., that the random selection of songs coming from the shuffle mode of my iTunes library on my laptop (connected to the compact but terrific speakers that were a gift from my older son Miles) was really interesting, in both what was included and what kinds of music were missing (since I now have a pretty extensive and eclectic music library on there).

So I thought I'd share it, as an excerpt from the mostly uplifting soundtrack of my days (or part of one of them):

I haven't thought about "Sunday In The Park With George" in a long time.

Thanks for reminding me of it.

Now I'll go to You Tube and listen to a little of it before I sleep.

Dad,

Sharing one's iTunes shuffle playlist is (was?) an internet phenomenon. I think I saw it on facebook. It is surprisingly descriptive.

K, hope it didn't keep you up!
& Miles, It's odd the way it did two from Chet Baker and two from GANGS OF NEW YORK soundtrack. That always surprises me, how of all the possibilities right up to the present any little selection shuffle picks seems to circle back on itself here and there and sometimes seem confined to a particular time period. Some of the "artists" I have the most of include Van Morrison and Billie Holliday or Sinead O'Connor and Bill Charlap, but they seem to come up very rarely, etc. It sort of forces me into a certain kind of musical mood I wasn't expecting, if you know what I mean. That's part of the delight of this technology, as opposed to the old days of records or tapes.

what a list - that little iDJ knows how to spin ...
i'm often shocked and amazed by the way songs fade into each other [if you enable that feature] - and the randomness always keeps me guessing ...
and, as Miles says - surprisingly descriptive ...
i've got a few Lally poems from your CD loaded and they pop up in the most unpredictable combinations ... [between Sinatra and Elvis Costello most recently] ...
