ONCE UPON A TIME
My favorite thing about this photo is the old cars...this is my sister Joan, brother Robert, mom and dad and brother Buddy, with me and my sister Irene in front (our oldest brother is missing) outside Buddy's new in-laws' house, in Washington DC, where the reception was held (home-made food from his Italian mother-in-law and others)...I was the ring bearer...can't believe the rented tuxedos, typical ethnic working-class extravagance for special occasions...I think it was 1949...
To respond to a post, just hit "comments" at the end and feel free to wail. [But no cursing people out or telling lies about them.]
On Sunday, January 19th, at 11AM I will be reading some poems and riffing on the history of racial prejudice in my part of Jersey in my lifetime (from the 1940s on). There'll be a Q&A after (followed by a reception with refreshments), at The Ethical Culture Society, 516 Prospect Street (Parker Avenue is the cross street), Maplewood NJ. Free to the public.
