THE OBAMA EDUCATION TEAM SHOULD WATCH THIS

As my son Miles pointed out when I shared this link (which I got from my friend Yael Klaesson) with him.

Anonymous said...: I can't wait for Obama to take notice or change things - he has his hands full. Besides, he said "We are the change we've been waiting for."

I intend to challenge the teachers and administrators of my daughter's public school about a few things (I already have and I am not popular at the school....) - how they value conformity above creativity, how they have unrealistic expectations for her physical abilities (emphasis on reading, sitting still for hours on end, etc.) and how little time she spends outside moving around. She's in KINDERGARTEN and only has 40 minutes of playground time.

I don't think it's impossible to effect real change but you do have to educate parents to the alternatives, and then motivate them to demand change.; November 20, 2008 at 1:47:00 PM EST

Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) -- President-Elect Barack Obama`s transition team is exploring a swift, prepackaged bankruptcy for automakers as a possible solution to the industry's financial crisis, according to a person familiar with the matter.

In a prepackaged bankruptcy, an automaker would go into court with financing in hand after reaching agreement with lenders, workers and suppliers on what each would give up and on the business plan to be followed. ABC News can report that the Obamas have selected Sidwell Friends for their daughters Sasha and Malia to attend.

Sidwell is where Chelsea Clinton attended school during the Clinton administration.

10. The K-12 public education system is essentially wrecked. No longer can any professor expect an incoming college freshman to know what Okinawa, John Quincy Adams, Shiloh, the Parthenon, the Reformation, John Locke, the Second Amendment, or the Pythagorean Theorem is. An entire American culture, the West itself, its ideas and experiences, have simply vanished on the altar of therapy. This upcoming generation knows instead not to judge anyone by absolute standards (but not why so); to remember to say that its own Western culture is no different from, or indeed far worse than, the alternatives; that race, class, and gender are, well, important in some vague sense; that global warming is manmade and very soon will kill us all; that we must have hope and change of some undefined sort; that AIDs is no more a homosexual- than a heterosexual-prone disease; and that the following things and people for some reason must be bad, or at least must in public company be said to be bad (in no particular order): Wal-Mart, cowboys, the Vietnam War, oil companies, coal plants, nuclear power, George Bush, chemicals, leather, guns, states like Utah and Kansas, Sarah Palin, vans and SUVs.
Well, with that done--I feel much better.
