There is one Church that goes all the way back to Jesus. (The Roman Catholic Church.) The Orthodox also have an unbroken line of bishops, but are not in full communion with Rome. After that it gets pretty diffuse.

Lally said...: Interesting that the deleted one seems to think the words "liberal" and "Christian" are mutually exclusive. The point he can't grasp is that rightwing fundamentalist religion of any stripe is anti-liberal, not anti-conservative by definition. But there are more liberal religious perspectives and interpretations and practices and branches of the religions whose rightwing elements are causing the most trouble in our world, and the deleted one also can't seem to grasp that it isn't just Muslims that have rightwing versions of their faith that are causing trouble, it's rightwing Jews that refuse to give up the idea of a "great Israel" with no Arabs allowed and rightwing fundamentalist Christians here and elsewhere (Uganda anyone) that condemn those who don't agree not just to eternal damnation but to unequal status under the law etc. etc. etc.; September 17, 2012 at 5:37:00 PM EDT
