NOW THEY'RE RIGHTEOUS

The way the Republicans are reacting to the stimulus bill and Obama and the Democratic Party's election success, is like a man who kidnaps a woman, sexually and physically abuses her, spies on her relatives and tortures those he suspects of wanting to steal her from him to abuse her themselves, and then when someone finally comes along to rescue her (by now you get that "she" is the USA) and takes her from him (the Republicans) and lays out a plan to get her the care she needs to get better, including rehabilitating her health—physical, mental and emotional—getting her an education so she can be independent, getting her off the drugs the man had her on to keep her subdued and willing to accept his abuse, etc. etc. that's when the man who did all the abuse (Republicans) criticizes the rescuer for including in his plan some new clothes and shoes and a couple of pieces of jewelry for the poor abused victim.

Or another less harsh version of this perspective can be found here.

Mike,
I think you have the makings of a good short story. If Science Fiction magazine is still around, it would be a good place to get it published.

President Obama's nominees and Tax Problems

Looks like we might reach double digits.

Solis Senate Session Postponed in Wake of Husband's Tax Lien Revelations
By Michael A. Fletcher
A Senate committee today abruptly canceled a session to consider President Obama's nomination of Rep. Hilda Solis to be labor secretary in the wake of a report saying that her husband yesterday paid about $6,400 to settle tax liens against his business -- liens that had been outstanding for as long as 16 years.

Lally's most prolific commenter is on shaky ground.

I get Michael's goat by criticizing Democratic corruption, but I agree Republicans set the gold standard. Republicans take 14 of the 20 spots in CREW's list of the top 20 most corrupt congress people. http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/

If you include other disreputable behavior (I'm looking at you Mark Foley) Republicans have no equals when it comes to sleazy hypocrisy.

Butch, You don't "get my goat" by criticizing Democratic corruption. I'm as against corruption as you I'm sure, and probably spent more energy and words and time fighting it in my lifetime than...etc. what bugs me is that so many people can't see that the rightwing strategy since Nixon has been if they can't get Democrats to vote for them, or support their attacks on the Dems or whatever their agenda at the moment is, then they work very hard and well to disillusion Dems and "independents" so they'll say a pox on both their houses. And as I've written before and will continue to, there's a giant difference between making mistakes on your taxes and letting the oil companies write their own bills and getting hundreds of thousands of people killed for those oil profits and other unnecessary reasons. Oh, did you notice that Exxon reported the biggest profits in the history of the world in 2008, despite a worldwide economic crash and the steep fall in oil prices? Hmmmm.

Poor Mark Foley got in to trouble for following his inner femine side. He never even acted. I thought Democtrats were pro gay rights and all that stuff. Is it that you are pro gay rights for every one but Republicans?

Did anyone notice that Exxon's profits, though record breaking as far as gross were down 33% in the fourth quarter? The percentage of profits have been well below technology companies like Microsoft. I have high confidence that Democrats will try to kill the oil business, Walmart and the domestic drug business. The Obamination that they call a stiumlus bill should help further weaken the economy.

By the way, Pres. Obama"s new "Cuddle your Local Terrorist Policy" is bearing fruit. The Cole attackers are being set free. Maybe there was something to that "Manchurian Candidate" stuff.

Just a flash back to a previous discussion of the importance of the fact that Muslims believe that the Qu'ran is the actual word of Allah.

"Many clerics rejected the book because it did not include the original Arabic verses alongside the translation. It's a particularly sensitive detail for Muslims, who regard the Arabic Koran as words given directly by God. A translation is not considered a Koran itself, and a mistranslation could warp God's word.

The clerics said Zalmai, a stocky 54-year-old spokesman for the attorney general, was trying to anoint himself as a prophet. They said his book was trying to replace the Koran, not offer a simple translation. Translated editions of the Koran abound in Kabul markets, but they include Arabic verses.

The country's powerful Islamic council issued an edict condemning the book.

"In all the mosques in Afghanistan, all the mullahs said, 'Zalmai is an infidel. He should be killed,'" Zalmai recounted as he sat outside the chief judge's chambers waiting for a recent hearing."
