"UNAMERICAN"

For all my life, the rightwing in this country has called any questioning of their beliefs, tactics, leaders, or even lies "UnAmerican." Told those of us against Nuclear war to go to Russia, those of us for Civil Rights for "blacks" to go to Africa. Those who questioned the Bush/Cheney claims about Iraq's "Weapons of mass destruction" not just "UnAmerican" but "traitors" and usually everyone, almost, in the media and Congress and elsewhere fell into line, afraid of the accusation.

Now someone's calling them "UnAmerican" and it makes them very angry. If only it would give them some insight into their own past behavior. But I doubt it. See the troll's comments lately on this blog for evidence of their ideological intransigence in the face of reality. Does anyone truly believe that Palin truly believes that Obama is out to murder her Down syndrome child and her parents through healthcare reform as she wrote on her Facebook page recently!?

Sadly, there are people out there who believe what Palin, Levin, and all these other rightwingers say.
Truth - what is truth when ideology is more important. I don't think some of them really believe in America.

Hi Mike,
It looks like Sarah and the Troll are correct and you are not. Specific amendments that would have prevented the proposed plan of preventing or denying care was defeated by Democrats. It would be amazing if this socialist plan sponsored by Obama, Pelosi and Reid is defeated by the combined efforts of just plain folks who come from Conservative, Moderate and Liberal persuasions. Maybe those Tea Parties were not a waste of time, but were precursors of a citizens revolt against big government.

http://blog.heritage.org/2009/07/10/senate-committee-blocks-anti-rationing-amendments/
“These three amendments would all have prevented the use of CER to ration or deny care or mandate coverage. All three were defeated on straight party-line votes. This is a serious development, and it has gotten little public attention in the general media. As The Washington Post pointed out on June 8th, one of the key issues emerging in the national health care debate is whether or not there will be official limits on the kinds of care, medical treatments, or procedures that Americans can get. As The Post reporter noted, when asked a specific question on this issue, the President failed to respond.
The President has stated, repeatedly, that if you enjoy your relationship with your doctor, his proposals would not interfere with that relationship. However, if CER becomes a pretext for rationing, government policy would, in effect, destroy the doctor-patient relationship. It would not only devalue a physician’s professional judgment in a particular case, it would also amount to a violation of the traditional Hippocratic Oath. The traditional Oath, after all, holds that the doctor is a servant of the patient.”

"for evidence of their ideological intransigence in the face of reality." Mlally

Here is a sample of Sarah's intransigence. She makes a hell of lot more sense than Nancy and Steny who call concerned American citizens "UnAmerican".

Sarah Palin
“ There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment," Palin wrote. "Such tactics diminish our nation’s civil discourse which we need now more than ever because the fine print in this outrageous health care proposal must be understood clearly and not get lost in conscientious voters’ passion to want to make elected officials hear what we are saying. Let’s not give the proponents of nationalized health care any reason to criticize us."

That lady makes so much sense. When she gets to be San Fran Nan's age, I bet she won't even use botox.

The July deficit shows "Hope and Change" at work. If August is equally as bad, two summer months of "Hope and Change" will approach all of last years deficit.

Bailouts for financial firms and billions in tax revenue lost because of the recession drove the deficit to a record $1.3 trillion in July, according to the independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

see - that's the problem when the previous administration did nothing - kind of like: the sins of our fathers ...
imagine if people like you and your kind would be spending equal time to contribute to solutions rather than spreading erroneous diatribe ...
palin - now there's another great example of character and believability ...

Sarah Palin is a Republican who fought corruption in the Alaskan Republican party. She is an executive who put together an enormous natural gas deal to bring a huge amount of energy to the lower 48. She is a mom who chose not to abort her son Trig and to raise him as a full fledged family member. One of my old time clients, who has since gone to his greater reward, described one of his seven children who has the same mental disability that Trig has, as a contributor to the strength of the family. He said that his family was drawn together, and became protectve and stronger for the effort. His mentally disabled son was in his thirties at the time of our conversation. My client daily drove his son to work to a company that employed mentally disable people. I have more respect for my client and Sarah who believes and practices a respect for life than all the pro abortionists like Obama/Pelosi/Reid who denigrate courageous people who live courageous lives.
Paul, you can criticize Sarah for quitting her governorship, but her character is far stronger than the Community Organizer and Abortion Advocator in Chief, who wants to bring rationing of health care that will result in denial of service to older folks and children like Trig. Obama supported the Daly Chicago machine and worked to deny passage of the “Infant Born Alive Act’, that allowed infants that were viable to die. What a creep.

Dear M:

The right actually is unAmerican on many levels, most especially, in my opinion, when it comes to their collective disregard for our country's foundational principles---their "unitary presidency" efforts, e.g., in which Bush/Cheney sought to undermine the entire balance-of-powers structure that the Founding Fathers put in place. (Of course, when they're out of power, they not quite so happy with these doctrines.)

For republicans and other rightwads, it's always Opposite Day---they specialize in attacking Democrats and progressives by turning reality upside down, so that AWOL Bush accuses combat veteran & decorated war hero Kerry of falsifying his service; or racist idiot Glen Beck calls the President a racist who hates white people (which would be a big surprise to the people who raised him).

Send them all to Russia is what I say!

right on, tp - in the spirit of fair play - when one candidate wins over the other [legitimately], i was always taught to exercise a modicum of respect and team loyalty - the rightwiggers are definitely behaving contrary to 'the american way' ...

TP and Paul,

So it is unAmerican to fight a socialist party and president who is attempting to bring socialism to the US in the form of industry take overs of major industries and of health care. I DON'T THINK SO!!
It is also unAmerican to fight for the Constitution that specifically limits the power of the federal government in the 10th amendment. Get a clue Liberals. That is Patriotism similar to what the American Revolution, The Decaration of Independence and the Constitution was and is all about.

you've convinced yourself from over exposure to rightwigger propaganda that your premise is true jim - this isn't socialism or any other form of bogeyman uprising - simply regulations imposed by an entity [legitimately elected by the majority of the people] capable of overseeing the greed and corruption that culminated during the past eight years of your beloved characterization of leadership ...
the only entity that presumes it can bailout and assist in the restructuring [outside of a foreign government] at a time of desperation - and it did so reluctantly if you recall - with little more than white noise derision from your party of favor ...
now that there's a little room to breath, look who's raising the din again ...
if the framers of the constitution were capable of foreseeing some of the irresponsible behavior of the the rightwingers and the legal antics of the previous administration, i'm sure they would have built in safeguards to avoid the loopholes you and yours feverishly manipulate ...
i see your girl palin is trying to recant again - some character ...

Supposedly the politicians have objected to the close security details, even telling the Secret Service to stop using magnetrometers. It wasn't so long ago that someone threw a grenade at Bush when he was overseas. The last thing we need is an incident that greases the passage of liberal unAmerican socialism.

You have got the admire the umbrage of the guy. He points out that the government run Post Office has problems and does not compete effectively with private enterprize, but asks us to trust him that the Government Run Health System is the answer. Words! Just words! Does he think we are stupid and do not understand when we are being played.

Reid: Protesters are 'evil-mongers'
@ 1:19 pm by Eric Zimmermann
Town hall protesters are "evil-mongers," says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.)
Reid coined the term in a speech to an energy conference in Las Vegas this week and repeated it in an interview with Politics Daily.
Such "evil-mongers" are using "lies, innuendo and rumor," to drown out rational debate, Reid said.

Lally said...

The evilmongers (aka fearmongers) are the ones who mislead these people into believing all kinds of lies, like Rush, Palin, various rightwing Republican leaders and people like Jim who should know better, but obviously care more about misrepresenting Obama and the various Congressional plans for healthcare in order to defeat him and them in their attempts to help the general populace instead of only the corporate elite and the rest of the tiny percentage of our fellow citizens who don't have to worry about what the rest of us do because they've robbed the system and us blind for so long under under either the deliberate ignorance or deliberate support of Republicans for decades. Et-endlessly-cetera.

JIm said...

Evilmongers and fearmongers need not mislead. There is enough to fear in just the language of the bill.

HR 3200 provides for the government take over of the health care system, punishes people who attempt to opt out, increases taxes on the so called wealthy small business owners, defines acceptable coverage, increases pressure on business owners to terminate private coverage, allows government to set fees for medical service, increases government’s right to scrutinize private affairs of individuals, increases the likelihood of being enrolled in government plan and exempts government health officials from court review. The full analysis taken from the actual bill can be found at http://www.classicalideals.com/HR3200.htm

PS Did I mention rationing? Every government plan including Canada, Massachusetts, Hawaii and the UK rations.

Death Panel Section of HR3200 Authors Revealed-Compassion & Choices (formerly Hemlock Society) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=106812

"Today comes (a) smoking gun … with the group Compassion & Choices coming out defending the questionable rationing portions of the bill and admitting THEY ACTUALLY WROTE THE LANGUAGE!" FRC Action said.
"The group Compassion & Choices, formerly known as the Hemlock Society, also says it had a hand in crafting Section 1233, writing July 27: 'Compassion & Choices has worked tirelessly with supportive members of Congress to include in proposed reform legislation a provision requiring Medicare to cover patient consultation with their doctors about end-of-life choice (section 1233 of House Bill 3200),'" she wrote.

The second party claiming authorship of some of the controversial parts of the plan is Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., who wrote about his state's "Death with Dignity" law that allows doctors to give patients fatal doses of medication:
“The amicus brief I have filed with other members of the delegation supports the (appellate) court's decision to uphold Oregon's Death with Dignity law. In 1994, Oregon overwhelmingly approved physician-assisted suicide in a statewide vote. … Former U.S. Attorney General Ashcroft repeatedly attempted to undermine the Oregon law using various methods. Each time the judge ruled in favor of the Oregon law. I am pleased that Attorney General Gonzalez' attempt to overturn the will of the people has been no more successful than his predecessor's."

While physician assisted suicide is a contentious issue, it is an issue handled at the state level and the attorney general should not be permitted to deprive the citizens of Oregon and the nation the opportunity to make end of life decisions."
Blumenauer has condemned criticism of Obamacare's provisions.
