TOM TOMORROW AS ALWAYS ON TARGET

Here.

[PS: And for those who want to blame all this on Obama, read this.]

[PPS: And this!]

I was just reading a comment on another website regarding the toothlessness of the Democratics in the face of Republican tactics. The questions seem very much related to this cartoon. The two questions that he/she asked were:

"Name one good thing that American conservatism has done for this country in the last 100 years.

Name one good thing the Republican party has done in the last 40."

What cartoon liberals say:
If we’re going to deploy these doomsday bomb . . . we should at least require them to install a $1.97 cutoff switch on each device.

What actual liberals say:
The era of big government is over. — President Bill Clinton, 1996

What actual liberals do:
The Interior Department exempted BP's calamitous Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental impact analysis last year, according to government documents, after three reviews of the area concluded that a massive oil spill was unlikely.

The decision by the department's Minerals Management Service (MMS) to give BP's lease at Deepwater Horizon a "categorical exclusion" from the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) on April 6, 2009 -- and BP's lobbying efforts just 11 days before the explosion to expand those exemptions -- show that neither federal regulators nor the company anticipated an accident of the scale of the one unfolding in the gulf.

is there another species that destroys the environment it needs to sustain it?
when money achieves a greater value than anything else it becomes very costly.
for money:
we pollute the air, land and sea
we poison the food supply
we turn water into a toxic liquid
will our science develop a way that we will adapt to be able to eat and drink money?

Stipulated. It’s not all Obama’s fault.

Republicans and Democrats are two wings of the neoliberal party. Obama is squarely in the neoliberal tradition that began in earnest with Reagan. Obama admits as much.

It seems clear Obama and his cohorts thought big oil was capable and willing to regulate themselves. Why else would his administration not require environmental impact studies for BP’s risky deep water drilling?

There is no evidence the evil Republicans forced Obama to hand out these exemptions. For this Obama bears sole responsibility.
