GENIUS(ES) AT WORK (MORE RELIEF FROM THE GLOOM AND DOOM OF THE LATEST MEDIA STORIES)

When one of my oldest and dearest friends, the great sculptor Gene Harris sent me a link to this Youtube video of the uniquely talented Stanley Jordan, he titled it "Genius at Work"—but I added the "es" above because of the two other musicians, especially the bassist, watch the video all the way through to see how amazing he is as well.

Dear Lal--Who'd have ever thought of
"Autumn Leaves" as a jump-tune? Wow! Some kinda chops, all round. Amazing bass. And the drummer was not too
shabby either. Thanks for posting this--it proves once again, if any proof is still necessary, that jazz beats A N Y form of rock, FLAT.
Period. End of story. I ain't gonna
give nobody none of My Jelly Roll,

Happy you dug it Bob. And yes, the drummer kicks it too. I knew his and the bassist's names but can't get them from wherever they are in my brain. Anyone?

Stanley Jordan was born July 31, 1959, which by my calculations makes him 52 years old. Thus, I conclude that this video was done quite a few years ago or Stanley has discovered the Fountain of Youth. However, any way you slice it the track is hot.

Can't say as I agree with Bob about his claim that any form of jazz beats any form of rock, "flat." Loving stuff in both disciplines, the most I can say is that I've probably heard much more bad rock than bad jazz.
