TWO QUOTES FOR THESE TIMES

"Some overstatements have worked their way into the governor’s routine public comments, like a claim that he balanced the budget last year without raising taxes; in truth, he cut deeply into tax credits for the elderly and the poor. But inaccuracies also crop up when he is challenged, and his instinct seems to be to turn it into an attack on someone else instead of giving an answer."

Sound familiar?

That's from an article in today's New York Times about the governor of New Jersey. Christie, and his success at coming across as a blunt, honest guy when in fact he misrepresents, midsriects and outright lies on most of the topics he's been addressing since he took office.

And this (an entire post on Paul Krugman's blog):

"The Last Refuge
Or, for some people, the first. Newt Gingrich explains why he dumped wife #1 while she was in the hospital after cancer surgery, and wife #2 soon after she was diagnosed with MS. It was because of his love of country:

There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate.
How did people like this end up running America?"
Good question.

Does anyone know what Scott Walker is personally giving up to help alleviate the budget deficit?

Even Big Bill recognizes that Obama is carrying on a war on American energy.

But according to multiple people in the room, Clinton, surprisingly, agreed with Bush on many oil and gas issues, including criticism of delays in permitting offshore since last year’s Gulf of Mexico spill.

The USA produced more oil last year than in previous years, and more energy from alternative sources than previous years. Hmmmm. Guess the right needs to attack Obama for...giving American oil producers the chance to make even more money! (I didn't delete the obvious lie in the previous comment so that I could remind anyone who thinks there's some actual reality to almost anything the right says when it comes to Obama that it just ain't so. Obama has his faults, but they're mostly from giving in too much to the right not the opposite.

no video or new media were permitted, so it's "according to people who were in the room" -I'll bet my bottom dollar that the one word everyone is honing in on, Clinton allegedly saying "ridiculous" is being quoted completely out of context.

JIm said...

The energy development that Obama bragged about, was approved prior to his administration. His domestic energy war continues.

Okay, I start deleting again after this one. The oil production in the USA last year was the highest it's been since 2003, therefore, the Obama administration and Democrats have done more for oil production in their two years than Bush/Cheney did in their last five! That is factual and irrefutable. So any attack on Obama for damaging our country by preventing oil production in the USA is A LIE, plain and simple. So the only motive for saying Obama is preventing oil production now that it is clear what the facts are IS TO USE A LIE TO DISCREDIT HIM. Which, obviously, is what the right is doing on this subject and most others concerning Obama. End of discussion, unless someone wants to correct themselves and offer an apology to Obama and this blog.

Don't hold your breath Michael, although I'd welcome such a surprise.

Truth and Facts cause the Lost In Space robot to flail his robot arms, spin wildly, sparks flying from ears, repeating "Does not compute." It's counter to his robot programming.

I fail to understand why you are defensive about Obama's emnity toward corporate America and particuarly corporate America of the oil/gas persuasion. He is just reflecting, with his actions, sentiments that you have often voiced in your comments.

Democrat Senator Landrieu in calling Obama administration's Gulf energy policy as inadequate and destructive has joined with Gulf area governors in their criticism.

PS Be sure to call Senator Landrieu a liar also.

I'm leaving this one too, at least for a while, because it is so instructive an example of the misdirection (notice he didn't respond to the facts or the call to correct himself or apologize for the lie(s)), as misrepresentation (as in what he refers to as "Obama's emnity [sic] toward corporate America and particularly corporate America of the oil/gas persuasion" which menas the fact that under Obama they have been allowed to produce more and make even higher profits is somehow an expression of "emnity [sic]"), and lies (almost everything in the comment).
Why?
Becaue that is the only way to defend the rightwing talking poins of the moment that Obama is anti-business, anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-etc., all lies, but without them their only response would have to be, well the guy's not perfect but he's making very reasoned and rational decisions for the most part even if we don't agree with them.

Lally said...

Sorry for all the typos (and for pointing out his with the "[sic]"s since I end up making even more myself).

PS: Though I do have the excuse of brain surgery etc.

"Drill baby drill". Does anyone remember the Palin Mantra first expressed at the Republican convention. Democrats inculding Senator Obama opposed domestic energy development in off shore, Alaska, Colorado Oil shale et endlessly et cetera. It takes 8-10 years to develope properties. Some of the properties that have come into production in the last 2 years were approved under Clinton. The idea that Obama's policies have helped increase domestic production is lunacy. Obama has opposed production and gulf politicians of both parties have voiced opposition to Obama's anti drilling policy.

I would not call wanting to prevent another BP disaster, wanting to advance our country and lead the world into alternative energy sources, into learning from disasters and mistakes - i would not call this "Anti-American". I would call those who call this "anti-American" "Anti- American." The same Tea-pocrits who sport American flags on their cars and then throw lit cigarette butts out the window of their cars.

Lally,
Your debating skills remain intact. It is a good thing you have mastered the phrase, "Comment Deleted".

Senator Landrieu IS a liar Jim! And like you, self-serving and self-righteous and unwilling to own up to the truth.
