Yes. The quote is, most unfortunately, timeless.
He shared an office with my friend, Sid Krome, when he was teaching a poetry class at Maryland. I spilled a cup of coffee on his desk soaking some of his poems ... he came in
looked things over and said: "well, they're not very good poems. Maybe the coffee will wake them up."
U met him once and he seemed exactly like the decent guy he came across as. I met Gene McCarthy too and he seemed pretty full of himself (and being at the time even more full of MYself I easily recognized that). McGovern never did from everything I experienced or saw or heard or read.
Woops, that should be "I met him once"...
yes politicians are (seemingly) ALL
egocentric and media/speech writers'
creations... all of them hell-bent on that library to house their doings.... and ride off into the sunset with their $$$$$ s stolen from "we the people"
that was the only contact that I had with him...
Sid cldn't stand him or his BS conversations on the phone.
I find it amazing that Nixon said he was a coward because of his opposition to the Viet Nam fiasco. Actually, McGovern was a WW II hero--a bomber pilot w/ 30 missions.
