THIS SAYS IT ALL

You gotta read this all the way through. Mindbogglingly emblematic of where we have come, and they're not stopping, that's for sure.

A terrific article, Michael. We too have these 'dumb' talk show hosts who make the same 'dumb' statements about reform, based on narrow prejudices - political, racial etc - as if they are statements of fact.

He forgot to mention Keith, Rachel, Big Ed and Scarborough.

I forgot Krugman and Chris.

"Dumb" is a good word to describe the Republican and Conservative opposition as a whole these days. I was appalled to hear on the radio an interview with a moderate Republican who was leaving Congress who mentioned that he was one of only two Republicans in the house that admitted believing in the existence of Global Warming. It is a far cry from the 60's when the right was represented on t.v. by William F. Buckley, annoying yes but never dumb.

watch your COMCAST bill now double...365 channels of garbage 24/7 for $125 per month for basic!

Chris Mason,
How's that man caused global warming theory working for you. Snow and cold is way up on the East Coast and in the upper mid west. If the Climategate fraud did not impress you, maybe the cold is numbing your brain.

Chris, I hear you. And talk about "dumb and dumber"—2010 was the warmest year on record, but because the warming causes extreme weather pretty much everywhere, the winter weather we're having now (in winter I might add) confuses them into thinking "It's really cold some places now, therefore global warming must not exist"! And as for "Climategate"—three independent scientific reviews have been done of the science involved and it is all verified. The only issue were some e mails in which someone wanted to change wording to bolster the argument, as opposed to the wording that was changed in the science commissioned by our government under Bush/Cheney, that was an attempt to totally alter the facts or ignore them. But all this takes investigation, reason and logic based on facts, something anathema too much of the time to those on the right.

The beauty of "Man Caused Global Warming" theory, is that weather conditions that are cold, warm, wet, dry or anywhere in between confirm the theory for true believers. Flawed science and dishonest scholorship confirms that skeptics are ignorant or nefarious. You talk of dumb, that is real dumb.

I guess the undeniable, confirmed shrinking of the polar icecaps and glaciers isn't really happening.

The lefties are standing there with zippos.

Robert,

I am not a scientist nor are you. I went to my site you go to yours. One thing is sure the debate goes on.

"Here are two statements that are completely agreed on by the IPCC. It is crucial to be aware of their implications.

1. A doubling of CO2, by itself, contributes only about 1C to greenhouse warming. All models project more warming, because, within models, there are positive feedbacks from water vapor and clouds, and these feedbacks are considered by the IPCC to be uncertain.

2. If one assumes all warming over the past century is due to anthropogenic greenhouse forcing, then the derived sensitivity of the climate to a doubling of CO2is less than 1C. The higher sensitivity of existing models is made consistent with observed warming by invoking unknown additional negative forcings from aerosols and solar variability as arbitrary adjustments.

Given the above, the notion that alarmingwarming is ‘settled science’ should be offensive to any sentient individual, though to be sure, the above is hardly emphasized by the IPCC."

provide a direct link to the IPCC's findings, which I could not find on their website, only a bunch of prefatory and to me, irrelevant drivel. And your referenced site, "climate-skeptic" kind of says it all as far as non-objectivity. It's narrow minded and short sighted to tie the concept of global warming or not to one cold winter or warmer summers. More concerning and indicative of mindfulness and need for change in long-term, big picture thinking (for fifty plus years from now) is shrinking of polar ice caps, diminishment of species, the massive worldwide flooding that's occuring RIGHT NOW (u.s., south american, europe, australia), cancer of all forms, 270 million guns in the US alone and 24/7 gun violence depicted on tv/movies/video games - emphasis on war over education, education system largely archaic that doesn't emphasize problem solving and multi-culturalism. Getting caught up in the small picture, narrow scope, tit for tat, need to be right is, what does AC/DC call it - the highway to hell.

Robert,
Whateverrr, as my 16 soon to be 17 year old daughter would say.

An appropriate response to you by her, you're her Dad so she has to listen, but no doubt sees through and beyond you, thankfully, hopefully.

Robert,
Thank you for your kind thoughts on my relationship with my daughter, Shannon. If you were back East or in the Mid West I would caution you to bundle up when outside. I understand news folks were issuing cautionary warnings on frost bite.

Robert,

Here is a weather update for you. I know that weather does not influence the belief of Man Caused Global Warming adherants, but I thougt it might be interesting anyway.

1 hr 16 mins ago
"NEW YORK – Bone-chilling cold has prompted schools around the Northeast to delay openings and some canceled classes altogether on Monday. The cold snap was linked to at least two weekend deaths, including that of a woman whose frozen body was found in a driveway.

Schools in western and northeastern Pennsylvania, across upstate New York and parts of Vermont and New Hampshire closed their doors or delayed openings to protect students from temperatures that dropped in some locations as low as 25 degrees below zero or even colder.

The wind chill in some areas of New England was expected to make it feel as cold as 50 degrees below zero"

Jim,

As I've said repeatedly before, to me the issue is not simply about temperature. The earth spins around in vast space and weather is affected from beyond our biosphere and awareness. Here on earth, we tend to package issues in simplified terms, warm-cold, left-right etc. etc. The true issue is about man's relationship to the planet and the overall long term big picture effects of our practices today, the overall warming of polar regions being part of a larger picture of toxicity in our world resulting from unchecked short term profit driven living. Cancer, hate, starvation, pestilence, genocide of culture and species, it goes on and on. I feel when speaking with you, like I'm speaking to the Lost in Space robot when you are challenged to think beyond your programming, you spin around, flail your arms, sparks fly out your ears and you recite "does not compute" while spouting quotes and evading what's in front of you.

Robert,

I am determined to be better and straighten my mind, so that I too can accept the belief, if not the science of "Man Caused Global Warming". I will repeat the following mantra,
- warm, cold and in between weather is proof of M.C.G.W.
- flawed science just means I must be more resolute in the belief of M.C.G.W.

I will attempt to recite my mantra to the tune, "Follow the Yellow Brick Road".

I already feel better.
